If you’re a fan of BBQ, you won’t want to miss the inaugural Squealin’ on the Square event in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on July 27. During the popular Friday Sounds on the Square event, Squealin’ on the Square will be held. Whether you enjoy eating BBQ or cooking it, you’re certain to enjoy the food and the competition.
Join the Competition
If you’d like to join the competition and show off your BBQ and grilling skills, read the guidelines and fill out the entry form. There is only enough space for 15 teams, so be sure to submit your entry form as soon as possible. Teams are comprised of one head cook and up to four assistants.
To compete, there is a non-refundable $50.00 fee for the first category and $20.00 for additional categories. The meat categories you can choose from are:
- Chicken: cook halved chicken
- Pork – Ribs: 5-bone baby-back ribs
- Pork – Chops: 1-bone-in chop
Your contestant fee includes:
- Site
- Circuit 20amp 110-volt
- Access to potable water
More about Becoming a Contestant
At 9:30 a.m. there will be a mandatory contestant meeting. During the meeting, the guidelines and regulations will be discussed. Health codes must be met and one member from each team must be present.
Each contestant site is 20’ x 30’ and throughout the duration of the event, all materials and cooking tools must be inside the assigned space. Cooking must not begin until 10:00 a.m.

The Squealin’ on the Square event begins at 6:00 a.m. and lasts until 9:00 p.m. All festival activities will be held at Founder’s Square in downtown Hopkinsville at 198 West 9th Street.
