Living in Northern Tennessee has some great perks. A lot of Clarksville residents love being close enough to take advantage of Nashville but coming home to something a little quieter. And of course, the nature in the area is absolutely beautiful. One place you can go to see all the area has to offer is Dunbar Cave State Park.
The Cave
Just like the name says, one of the best parts of this park Is Dunbar Cave. Did you know the cave is eight miles long? That’s a lot of exploring!
It even contains iconography from Native Americans dating from about 1350 AD. That’s some really cool history, right here in our back yard. When you take a tour, you can see some examples. People added images including concentric circles, rayed suns, and a warrior figure.
Now that the weather’s starting to warm up, it’s time to start planning a trip to take a cave tour. Tours take place in the summer, and tickets must be bought in advance. They’ll begin May 1st and happen every day at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
The Rest of the Park
There’s plenty to do at the park before tours start back, though. On a nice weekend, you can go biking, play disc golf, go geocaching or hiking, or even go rock climbing.
Plus, the park staff hosts plenty of events to help you get the most out of your visit. There are guided hikes and trips to see certain kinds of wildlife. On February 9, you can take part in an outdoor beginner photography workshop. This event is $30 and will be guided by David Duplessis, a professional photographer. You’ll need to meet at the Dunbar Cave Visitors Center at 7 a.m.
